DRIVE OFF THIEVES TARGETED IN KENT

01/04/2009

North Kent Police have launched an operation aimed at petrol bilkers, who cost sites thousands of pounds each year.

Stats show that Dartford and Gravesend had the highest rate of bilking offences in the county in the period between early 2005 and mid 2008. In 2008 alone, there were 741 reported offences which peaked at a rate of 80 offences a month.

Police are launching an operation from March 3rd to 27th to deter and identify those involved. Chief Inspector said, “North Kent is targeted for this type of crime only because of its easy access to the major road network. We are working hard in partnership with the service stations to reduce bilkings and throughout the operation will be increasing patrols to deter offenders and also gather information about those responsible".
